Who we are

In the seventeenth century , in Trieste , there were 40 sailmakers that worked for commercial sailing ships, but the advent of the steamer ships was a revolution and only the best sailmakers continued to produce .
In 1917 , Ernesto Zadro , one of the collaborators of these sailmakers, realized that a completely new market, the sailmakiing for yachts , was born and he opened his own loft.
The results of his experience , joined to the study of aerodynamic , carried immediately the name Zadro on the racing fields, where, starting from Olympic games on the Zuidersee ( Holland ), Nordio, De Manincor, Nadali, Straulino, Rode , Cosentino, Sorrentino, Peijtel and many others famous names gained victories also in Italian championships as Turkish, Austrian, French , European and Olympic races.
The orders arrived from the whole Europe , and , to Ernesto Senior joined his son Ernesto jr. ( the second generation ) that will be present on the racing fields.
After the second world war , Zadro Sails started in working with Class C yachts and all metric classes. At the end of the years 60 the I.O.R. is born , our family was ready to effort it , at the same time also fin keeks classes were followed gaining others victories . In these years starts working in the loft Ernesto Jr. son , Aldo ( the third generation ) Zadro Sails was the first Italian sailmaker to make experiments with Mylar Kevlar ( 1981 ! ) and in the first to use computerized systems in sailmaking.
Today, as in 1917, we work without precise limits between private and professional life, but the relationship with the customer ( amateur or regattahelmsman ) is extremely direct.
We remain a "human" firm , surely connected with the modern technologies ( we are using from a long time the computerized projecting joined with a sophisticated sofware for simulation and naturally computerized cutting ), but we do not forget our origins, and also today we are able to make hand cutting and make old cuts with old style particulars for the sector of classic boats.
As special prize, in the 2002, we are elected best Italian sailmaker. To be faithful to our "tradition through progress" in the 2002 arrives in the loft, after a working experience by an important american sailmaker, the nephew Federico ( the fourth generation of sailmakers, today always more often present on races fields ) and in the 2003 we open in Torviscosa (Udine) a new loft , more central to our market, but our working way, the honesty and the seriousness to offer you a good product, remain always the same.

What we can offer you ?

As already told , since many years we moved our project archive on the computers ( obviously we mainteined also the original) and today the projecting is totally computerized also with the help of some naval architects the projects are tested and analyzed with special softwares , the cut is completely computerized, so we can guarantee the maximum precision.
For the sailmaking we use special long arm sewing machines , with puller that joined to the preassembly with biadhesive tapes , offer an optimal construction result and allow us to effort , without problems , also the sails for big boats.
The materials are buyed from the 2 or 3 more important producers in the world. And so we have another step in the quality , any possible change in our sailmaking way is longtested before becoming routine . Today we offer different product lines, from BASIC ( a quality product but very simplified ) till to the EXTRA made with the more actual materials and technologies , in this way we are able to satisfy both cruiser sailors and race sailors and also who wants to effort seas that are far away.
Obviously we do not forget fin keels classes ( our old love never left ) made in cruising as in racing version , and at the same way we make sails for Monotypes.
With the same attention we produce and sell also a line of ACCESSORIES.
Starting from Jib Furling Systems ( we choosed only leader names ) to continue with main covers ( also in lazybag version for fullbattened mainsails ) and jib covers, all made with UVA resistent materials, and also easy spi our chute for spinnakers and gennakers ( tested since a long time ) or takewind , to bring air within the boat or our suncovers and wintercovers without forgotting some little particulars as halyards, sheets, blocks, and deck hardware.
Finally to offer you a complete service there are the services of maintainance - checking up - reparing and sailwashing.
